Category: Textual Conventions and Registries, VPN and Security

Description: IPsec flow MIB textual conventions (Tivoli/Cisco) defining data types for IPsec security association and flow monitoring objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IPSEC-FLOW-MIB-TC?

IPSEC-FLOW-MIB-TC is an IETF-standard textual-conventions MIB that defines the shared data types used by the IPsec Flow Monitoring MIB, including enumerations for Internet DOI numbers (RFC 2407), ISAKMP numbers (RFC 2408), and IKE numbers (RFC 2409). It does not itself expose runtime data objects; instead it supplies typed building blocks (TEXTUAL-CONVENTIONs) that other IPsec-related MIBs import to represent protocol identifiers consistently. As a pure TC module it has no monitoring role of its own for hardware or software status, uptime, or performance counters. It is explicitly dependent on companion IPsec/IKE MIBs (such as IPsec SA monitoring MIBs) that import these conventions, and on the IETF RFCs defining the numeric registries it encodes. It is typically found alongside VPN gateways and IPsec-capable routers/firewalls as a supporting definitions module rather than a standalone monitored entity. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IPSEC-FLOW-MIB-TC RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IPSEC-FLOW-MIB-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • IPsec/IKE VPN gateway or firewall (supporting definitions only)

Monitoring Examples

This module is a textual-conventions-only definitions file (sample_objects is empty) and defines no runtime tables or scalars of its own, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe honestly. Its contents are consumed by other IPsec MIBs that import its DOI/ISAKMP/IKE type definitions when representing security association parameters. No polling would ever target this module directly.
