This counter reports the total number of remote connections currently recorded in the standard LLDP MIB's remote systems table for this port. Administrators use it as an overall count of discovered neighbors on that port, combining however many were found via LLDP messages, MAC learning, or both depending on the configured FDB mode. For example, an unexpectedly high total entry count on what should be a single point-to-point link could indicate the port is actually connected to a hub or unmanaged switch fanning out to multiple devices.
