Description: This column indicates the current state of the protection switching state machine for an IPG. The value can be one of the following:

workingSegment(1) The protection switching state machine is in the WORKING_PATH state. protectionSegment(2) The protection switching state machine is in the PROTECTION_PATH state. waitToRestore(3) The protection switching state machine is in the WTR state. protAdmin(4) The protection switching state machine is in the PROT_ADMIN state.

What is ieee8021TeipsIpgConfigState?

Reports the current state of the IPG's protection switching state machine: on the working path, on the protection path, in wait-to-restore, or in administrative protection mode. An admin reads this to see, at a glance, which path is currently carrying traffic for this protection group.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Carrier Ethernet switches/bridge as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ieee8021TeipsIpgConfigState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This column indicates the current state of the protection switching state machine for an IPG. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value stays at 'waitToRestore' longer than a normal protection-switching transition takes, since that means the IPG hasn't reverted back to its working path. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
