Category: Device Management, Technology: Switching/L2
Description: MIB defining optional extended management objects for Ethernet hub devices beyond the standard RFC 1516 repeater MIB.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HUB-OPT-MIB?
HUB-OPT-MIB is a private legacy MIB, evidenced by its cdx6500-prefixed objects, that supplies optional extended management objects for Ethernet hub/repeater devices beyond the baseline RFC 1516 repeater MIB. It exposes port-level protocol-grouping data, indicating which protocol groups individual repeater ports belong to, effectively categorizing traffic classes passing through hub ports. It is used mainly to monitor the operational and protocol-classification state of hub ports rather than hardware sensors like temperature; an admin can confirm which protocol group a port is bound to and detect misconfiguration if a port reports an unexpected group assignment. It explicitly extends RFC 1516 (the standard IETF repeater/hub MIB), so it should be read alongside that base standard. It is deployed in older Ethernet hub/repeater installations, typically legacy wiring closets using cdx6500-series repeater hardware, and a HUB-OPT-MIB download supplies the object definitions needed to poll those port-level protocol groupings.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUB-OPT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ethernet hub/repeater (cdx6500-series)
Monitoring Examples
The cdx6500PCTPortProtocolGroup and cdx6500PSTPortProtocolGroup objects, per-port protocol classification entries extending the RFC 1516 repeater port table, would be polled to confirm each hub port's assigned protocol group; an admin comparing actual versus expected group membership can spot a misconfigured or rogue port.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port protocol group assignment
- PCT port protocol group
- PST port protocol group
- repeater port configuration state
