Description: Huawei Layer 2 VLAN MIB for managing VLAN creation, port membership, trunking, and VLAN service configuration on Huawei Ethernet switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-L2VLAN-MIB?

HUAWEI-L2VLAN-MIB is a Huawei enterprise MIB (rooted under hwDatacomm/hwL2Mgmt) that manages Layer 2 VLAN functionality across Huawei's VRP-based routers and Ethernet switches, and covers considerably more than basic VLAN creation and trunking: it includes VLAN stacking/QinQ tables (hwL2VlanStackingTable, hwL2VlanQinQTable, hwL2VlanInterfaceQinQTable), VLAN mapping and translation (hwL2VlanMappingTable, hwL2VlanXlateTable, hwL2DVlanMappingTable), super-VLAN (hwSuperVlanTable), MAC-based, protocol-based, and policy-based VLAN assignment (hwL2VlanMacVlanTable, hwL2VlanProtocolVlanTable, hwL2VlanPolicyVlanTable), voice VLAN (hwL2VlanVoiceVlanPortTable), interface isolation (hwL2InterfIsolateTable), and per-VLAN/per-priority traffic statistics (hwL2VlanStatTable, hwL2IfStat8021pTable). This breadth makes it useful for monitoring not just which ports belong to which VLANs, but also advanced Carrier Ethernet features like QinQ tag stacking and dynamic VLAN assignment policies, and for pulling per-VLAN traffic counters. It depends on Q-BRIDGE-MIB and IF-MIB for VLAN and interface indexing conventions, and on HUAWEI-BASE-TRAP-MIB for its notification severity/cause objects. It is deployed on Huawei switches and routers running VRP; administrators can use the HUAWEI-L2VLAN-MIB Browser view to inspect these tables when auditing Layer 2 configuration.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-L2VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei VRP-based Ethernet switches and routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls hwL2VlanStackingTable and hwL2VlanQinQTable to confirm outer/inner VLAN tag mappings on a QinQ-enabled trunk port, then checks hwL2VlanStatTable for the affected VLAN; a mismatch between the configured stacking entry and observed traffic counts would indicate misconfigured tag translation causing dropped or misrouted double-tagged frames.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VLAN stacking/QinQ mapping table entries
  • MAC/protocol/policy-based VLAN assignment tables
  • super-VLAN and sub-VLAN associations
  • voice VLAN port configuration
  • per-VLAN and per-priority traffic statistics
  • interface isolation configuration

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hwL2VlanSwitchMtuDiscardPkts OID:

Select a Huawei VRP-based Ethernet switch or router (VLAN/QinQ/super-VLAN management) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hwL2VlanSwitchMtuDiscardPkts into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of discard packets. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
