Description: Describes or controls the priority of the PSE. The priority will be used by the PSE policy to prevent from power overloading. If the priority of PSE is set to critical, the PSE will turn into guaranteed mode. The priority could be used by a control mechanism that prevents power overloading by disconnecting PSEs with lower power priority. PSEs that connect devices critical to the application should be set to higher priority.

What is hpnicfMainPsePowerPriority?

This read-write setting (critical/high/low) sets this PSE's priority so that, during a power shortfall, PSEs with lower priority get disconnected first; setting critical actually forces the PSE into guaranteed mode. An admin would mark the PSE feeding, say, an E911 gateway as critical to keep it powered even if other units must be shed.
