Module: HP-ICF-ARP-PROTECT
OID (symbolic): HP-ICF-ARP-PROTECT::hpicfArpProtectVlanStatBadPkts
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.5.1.37.1.2.1.1.3
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Counter32
Access: read-only
Description: The number of ARP packets received on untrusted ports that were dropped because they were malformed in some way. This may include an unrecognized opcode, an unrecognized protocol type, an unrecognized hardware type, an invalid protocol address length, or an invalid hardware address length. This count does not increment for VLANs for which Dynamic ARP Protection is not enabled.
What is hpicfArpProtectVlanStatBadPkts?
This read-only Counter32 counts, per its source description, ARP packets received on untrusted ports that were dropped for being malformed (bad opcode, protocol type, hardware type, or address length), and does not increment on VLANs without Dynamic ARP Protection enabled. Admins treat a rising BadPkts count as a sign of either malfunctioning network equipment sending malformed ARP frames or a crude attack tool generating invalid packets. For example, a spike in BadPkts right after installing a new NIC driver on a host could indicate that driver is generating malformed ARP packets.
