hpSwitchAuthenLoginSecondary

Module: HP-AUTH-MIB

OID (symbolic): HP-AUTH-MIB::hpSwitchAuthenLoginSecondary

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.5.1.16.2.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: The value of this object indicates the secondary login authentication mechanism, i.e whether Local or Authorized will be tried in case the primary authentication results in an error.The Local authentication method uses the credential database on the switch. The Authorized authentication method will be granted access without authenticating. The cachedReauth authentication method will grant access in case of reauthentication retaining the current session attributes.

What is hpSwitchAuthenLoginSecondary?

This selects the fallback login authentication method used only if the primary method (hpSwitchAuthenLoginPrimary) fails with an error. local(1) checks the switch's own credential database, authorized(3) grants access without any further authentication, and cachedReauth(4) reuses a prior session's attributes on reauthentication. An admin typically sets this to local so a RADIUS/TACACS+ outage does not lock out all administrative access.
