Last Updated: 2004-12-09

Category: Protocol: VRRP, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: H3C MIB extending VRRP with H3C-specific virtual router redundancy configuration and tracking enhancements.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-VRRP-EXT-MIB?

H3C-VRRP-EXT-MIB extends the standard Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) management model with H3C-specific enhancements for virtual router redundancy configuration and interface/route tracking, building on the base concept of VRRP virtual routers used for first-hop gateway high availability. Although no sample objects were supplied, MIBs of this class typically add tracking-object bindings (e.g. tracking an uplink interface or route and adjusting VRRP priority accordingly) and additional per-virtual-router state beyond the standard VRRP MIB. Its monitoring value is centered on router redundancy health: confirming which router in a VRRP group currently holds the master role, and whether a configured tracked interface/route failure has correctly triggered a priority reduction and failover to a backup router. It explicitly extends and depends on the standard VRRP protocol/MIB model (RFC 2787 / VRRP-MIB) for its base virtual-router object structure. It is deployed in H3C routers and Layer 3 switches providing redundant default-gateway service to a subnet. Engineers can download the H3C-VRRP-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-VRRP-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C routers and Layer 3 switches running VRRP

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this module, so exact table/column names cannot be confirmed; conceptually, an administrator would check the extended VRRP tracking configuration to confirm a backup router's priority is correctly adjusted when its tracked uplink interface goes down, and verify current master/backup role assignment to catch an unexpected failover. This entry should be revisited once the actual object tree can be inspected for precise names.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VRRP master/backup role state
  • tracked interface/route status
  • priority adjustment on tracking failure
