Category: RADIUS and AAA, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: H3C MIB for configuring and monitoring AAA Network Access Server (NAS) identifiers used in authentication.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-AAA-NASID-MIB?

H3C-AAA-NASID-MIB is an H3C (Hangzhou Huawei-3Com, now HPE H3C) enterprise MIB that manages the Nas-id string used within the AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) framework, letting a device identify itself to a RADIUS/AAA server as a Network Access Server. It exposes a single configuration table mapping an index to a configurable NAS identifier string, rather than performance counters or environmental data. Its role in monitoring is narrow: it lets an operator confirm which Nas-id value(s) are currently configured on a device, which matters for troubleshooting AAA authentication failures where the RADIUS server enforces NAS-Identifier matching, rather than reporting hardware health, CPU/memory load, or software version. It is used alongside H3C's broader AAA MIB set (e.g. RADIUS/authentication server configuration) which this module conceptually depends on since the Nas-id is passed in AAA protocol exchanges. It is deployed on H3C routers and switches acting as network access servers in enterprise or carrier AAA-authenticated access environments, where H3C-AAA-NASID-MIB SNMP monitoring helps confirm the NAS identifier matches what the RADIUS server expects.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-AAA-NASID-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C router
  • H3C switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would walk h3cAAANasIdTable/h3cAAANasIdEntry to read h3cAAANasIdName and confirm the exact Nas-id string a device is presenting to its AAA server. If RADIUS authentication is failing due to NAS-Identifier attribute mismatches, comparing the configured h3cAAANasIdName against what the RADIUS server expects quickly reveals a misconfiguration. This is a configuration-verification MIB rather than one with counters or fault traps.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured NAS identifier string(s)
  • NAS-id table entries per index
