Category: Protocol: NTP, Technology: Time Synchronization, Vendor: MICROSENS

Description: MICROSENS G6 switch MIB for NTP client configuration, server selection, and time synchronization status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is G6-NTP-MIB?

This is a Microsens private MIB for their Generation 6 (G6) family of managed Ethernet switches, focused on Network Time Protocol (NTP) client configuration and time synchronization. It exposes configuration data such as enabling/disabling NTP, selecting main and backup NTP servers, DHCP-provided server options, sync interval, and trusted server settings, alongside status/display objects for current time, date, and timezone. Rather than physical sensors, its primary monitoring value is verifying software-level time synchronization status on the switch, confirming whether the device's clock is actually syncing to its configured servers and displaying the correct time, which is critical for accurate event and log timestamps. It is a switch-vendor MIB that operates independently but is conceptually related to standard NTP management approaches where present. It is deployed on Microsens G6-series industrial/managed Ethernet switches where accurate time synchronization is needed for logging, security, or protocol correlation. Engineers can download the G6-NTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in G6-NTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Microsens G6 series managed Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check ntpEnableNtp and ntpSyncNow to confirm NTP is active and force an immediate resync, then read ntpMainNtpServer and ntpBackupNtpServer to verify the correct time sources are configured. Polling ntpShowTimeDate against a trusted external clock reveals drift or failed synchronization, while ntpSyncInterval shows how frequently the switch checks in. If ntpDhcpProvidesNtpServer is enabled but ntpTrustedServer doesn't match expectations, it could indicate a rogue or misconfigured DHCP-supplied time source.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NTP enable/disable state
  • configured NTP servers
  • time synchronization status
  • sync interval
  • current time/date/timezone
  • DHCP-supplied NTP server usage
