expressGSSwitchPortFastStart

Module: EXPRESSGS-MIB

OID (symbolic): EXPRESSGS-MIB::expressGSSwitchPortFastStart

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.343.6.13.5.2.1.1.17

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: When this object is set to enable(1), bridge ports on this switch port transitions right from blocking to forwarding, skipping the listening and learning states. The user should be warned that using the fast start feature greatly increases the likelihood of unintended network loops that would otherwise be prevented by participating in the normal spanning tree algorithm.

The factory default value for this object is disable(2).

What is expressGSSwitchPortFastStart?

When enabled(1), bridge ports riding on this switch port skip the listening and learning spanning-tree states and jump straight to forwarding, at the cost of increased risk of unintended loops; disabled(2) by default. An admin enables this only on ports known to connect to a single end-station (not another switch), to speed up link-up recovery without introducing loop risk.
