Controls which direction of traffic a special IP filter type (like broadcast or a specific IP option) is allowed through this interface: none blocks matching packets, in/out/both allow them inbound, outbound, or both ways; an admin sets this per interface to, for example, permit DHCP broadcasts while still blocking source-routed packets.
