eMailChannel

Module: EMAIL-MIB

OID (symbolic): EMAIL-MIB::eMailChannel

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.4.51.4.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: DisplayString

Access: read-only

Description: The sending entity (not the person sending the message).

What is eMailChannel?

Identifies the sending entity, such as the transport mechanism or originating system, that submitted the message, as distinct from the human sender named in eMailSender. Admins use this to tell apart mail submitted through different channels, such as distinguishing local mail-command submissions from network-relayed mail, when diagnosing delivery patterns. A burst of cache entries all sharing the same eMailChannel value would point an admin to a single automated submission source as the cause of a delivery spike.
