Description: Controls Layer 2 multicast forwarding and filtering tables on Dell bridging switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-rlBrgMulticast-MIB?

Dell-rlBrgMulticast-MIB is a Dell private MIB (rlBrgMulticast, registered under Dell's rnd enterprise branch) covering Layer 2 IP multicast bridging on Dell MTS-software switches, including both IGMPv1/v2/v3 and MLDv1/v2 snooping. It exposes a version identifier (rlBrgMulticastMibVersion), a static-filtering configuration table (rlBrgStaticIpMulticastTable, keyed by VLAN/group/source address, with forwarding and forbidden port lists and RowStatus lifecycle control), and a dynamic forwarding-database table (rlBrgIpMulticastTable) showing the egress ports currently forwarding a given group/source and which of those ports were learned dynamically via snooping versus statically configured. This lets an operator verify that multicast streams are being replicated only to the intended ports on a VLAN and that static overrides are taking effect as configured. It depends on the Q-BRIDGE-MIB for VLAN indexing and port-list encoding and on Dell's base Dell-MIB enterprise structure, and is deployed on Dell layer 2/3 switches running multicast-sensitive services such as IPTV or financial market data feeds. Administrators can download the Dell-rlBrgMulticast-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-rlBrgMulticast-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerConnect / Force10 MTS-software switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator compares rlBrgStaticIpMulticastFrwPorts against the live rlBrgIpMulticastEgressPorts and rlBrgIpMulticastLearntPorts for a given VLAN/group entry to confirm a statically pinned multicast receiver port is actually forwarding traffic; a group present in the static table but absent from rlBrgIpMulticastTable would indicate the forwarding entry never got programmed into hardware.

What Can Be Monitored

  • static multicast filtering table entries (VLAN/group/source)
  • forward vs. forbidden port lists
  • dynamic multicast forwarding database (FDB) entries
  • statically vs. dynamically learned egress ports
  • row status of static filter entries
