tRingPortStnPortMapEnable

Module: DOT5-LOG-MIB

OID (symbolic): DOT5-LOG-MIB::tRingPortStnPortMapEnable

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.2.1.1.3.2.1.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: A write of mappingEnabled to this object permits a station port to be associated, or mapped, to a station participating in the ring poll process on this ring. A write of mappingDisabled prevents this association from taking place. This object is intended to be used when a network monitoring device, such as Network General's Sniffer (tm), is inserted on a ring but is not actively participating in the ring poll. The default value of this object is mappingEnabled.

What is tRingPortStnPortMapEnable?

Writing mappingEnabled(1), the default, lets this station port be associated with whichever station is seen participating in the ring poll process; writing mappingDisabled(2) prevents that mapping. Per the description, this is meant for a passive monitoring device (like a Sniffer) attached to the ring but not itself participating in ring poll, so its port doesn't get incorrectly mapped to a station.
