Description: The initial random backoff window to use when retrying Ranging Requests. Expressed as a power of 2. A value of 16 at the CMTS indicates that a proprietary adaptive retry mechanism is to be used. See the associated conformance object for write conditions and limitations.

What is docsIfUpChannelRangingBackoffStart?

Sets the starting size of the random backoff window, expressed as a power of 2, that a cable modem uses when retrying a ranging request. A value of 16 at the CMTS means a vendor-specific adaptive backoff algorithm is used instead of a fixed window. Operators tune this alongside the backoff end value to control how aggressively modems retry ranging during contention.
