Description: At the CM, a measure of the current round trip time obtained from the ranging offset (initial ranging offset + ranging offset adjustments). At the CMTS, the maximum of timing offset, among all the CMs that are/were present on the channel, taking into account all ( initial + periodic ) timing offset corrections that were sent for each of the CMs. Generally, these measurements are positive, but if the measurements are negative, the value of this object is zero. Used for timing of CM upstream transmissions to ensure synchronized arrivals at the CMTS. Units are in terms of (6.25 microseconds/64).
What is docsIfUpChannelTxTimingOffset?
On a cable modem, this reports the modem's current round-trip ranging offset; on the CMTS, it reports the largest timing offset seen across all CMs on the channel, in units of 6.25 microseconds/64. An admin watches this to gauge how far a modem is (electrically) from the headend, and an unusually large or drifting value is often a symptom of plant issues like amplifier problems or a marginal cable run.
