What Is DLINK-AUTH-MIB?

This is a D-Link proprietary MIB covering authentication services on D-Link switches, including RADIUS, TACACS+, and local login authentication used for administrative and port-based access control. It exposes configuration objects such as the active authentication protocol and mode, RADIUS server table entries (IP address, shared key, auth port), and RADIUS timing/retry parameters. From a monitoring standpoint it is mainly a configuration/status MIB for a security service; checking swAuthMode and the RADIUS server table lets an admin verify the correct authentication method and servers are configured, and polling swRadiusServerIndex/swRadiusServerIpAddr entries confirms failover servers are present, which matters because a misconfigured or unreachable RADIUS server can lock administrators out of device management. It is a vendor-private tree that parallels concepts in the standard RADIUS-AUTH-CLIENT-MIB (RFC 2618) without directly importing it. Monitoring Examples

An admin can check swAuthMode and authProtocol to confirm which authentication scheme (local, RADIUS, TACACS+) is active, then walk swRadiusServerTable/swRadiusServerEntry to verify swRadiusServerIpAddr, swRadiusAuthPortNumber, and swRadiusServerKey are correctly set for each configured RADIUS server. Parameters like swRadiusTimeout and swRadiusRetransmitAttempts (present as deprecated/commented objects in the MIB) govern how long the switch waits before retrying or falling back, so unusually frequent authentication failures combined with default timeout values may point to an unreachable RADIUS server. swFakeAuthentication indicates whether a bypass/test authentication mode is enabled, which should normally be off in production.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using swAuthEapolFramesRx OID:

Select a D-Link managed switch (RADIUS/TACACS+/local authentication) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type swAuthEapolFramesRx into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of valid EAPOL frames of any type that have been received by this Authenticator. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
