Description: L3 management MIB for D-Link DGS-3420-28PC PoE switch covering Layer 3 routing, ACLs, and advanced management objects.

Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DGS-3420-28PC-L3MGMT-MIB?

DGS-3420-28PC-L3MGMT-MIB is a D-Link proprietary MIB providing Layer 3 network management information for the DGS-3420-28PC PoE Gigabit switch, covering routing configuration including OSPF ECMP settings, route preference, ACLs, and link-state database management. It exposes objects for how the switch balances traffic across equal-cost OSPF paths (including hash inputs like TCP/UDP port and CRC values) and how it prioritizes routes from different sources. Its monitoring value is in verifying the software/control-plane correctness of the routing engine, such as confirming ECMP load-balancing behavior and route-source preference, explaining why traffic takes a particular path or why a route was chosen over another. It parallels concepts from the standard OSPF-MIB (RFC 4750) even though implemented as a proprietary D-Link module. It is deployed in networks using the DGS-3420-28PC PoE switch at the access or distribution layer where Layer 3 routing with OSPF is enabled, and DGS-3420-28PC-L3MGMT-MIB SNMP monitoring is used to confirm ECMP load balancing and route preference behave as configured.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DGS-3420-28PC-L3MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link DGS-3420-28PC PoE Gigabit switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check swL3OspfECMPState and the ECMP hash-related objects (referencing CRC and TCP/UDP port fields) to confirm equal-cost multipath load balancing is active and hashing on the expected fields. Reviewing swL3RoutePreference clarifies how the switch ranks routes from different protocols or static configuration when multiple paths to the same destination exist. Checking swL3OspfLsdbMgmt-related objects helps verify the OSPF link-state database is being managed as expected, which is useful when diagnosing inconsistent route advertisements between neighbors.

What Can Be Monitored

  • OSPF ECMP state
  • ECMP hash configuration
  • route preference ordering
  • OSPF link-state database management

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using swL3ospfVirtIfEvents OID:

Select a D-Link DGS-3420-28PC PoE Gigabit switch (L3) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type swL3ospfVirtIfEvents into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of state changes or error events on this Virtual Link. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
