Category: Network Monitoring (RMON), Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Manages Cabletron SFPS traffic analysis point (TAP) configuration for traffic monitoring and capture.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-SFPS-TAP-MIB?

CTRON-SFPS-TAP-MIB is a Cabletron Systems (Ctron SFPS switch family) enterprise MIB that manages traffic analysis point (TAP) / call-tap configuration, used to configure port mirroring or lawful-intercept-style packet capture on specific switch ports. It exposes configuration data describing tap parameters -- header type, header length, header value, probe switch and probe port assignments, and per-tap-entry direction settings -- controlling how traffic is duplicated to a monitoring probe. Its monitoring relevance is centered on verifying that a configured tap is active and correctly wired to the intended probe switch/port, i.e. confirming a software/configuration feature's operational state rather than hardware sensors like temperature or power. There is no explicit dependency on other standard MIBs evident beyond the general Cabletron enterprise MIB tree. It is deployed in Cabletron/Enterasys SFPS switch environments where network traffic taps are used for monitoring, troubleshooting, or lawful intercept purposes. Engineers can download the CTRON-SFPS-TAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-SFPS-TAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron/Enterasys SFPS switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator managing the sfpsTapTable/sfpsTapEntry would check fields like sfpsTapHeaderDASA and sfpsTapRQPort to confirm a configured tap entry correctly captures traffic with the expected destination/source address header and routes it to the right request port. Polling sfpsCallTapProbeSwitch and sfpsCallTapProbePort verifies the tap is directed to the intended probe switch and port; a mismatch here would reveal a misrouted or non-functional traffic capture. This MIB is primarily configuration-state oriented rather than a source of hardware health metrics.

What Can Be Monitored

  • tap entry configuration
  • tap header parameters
  • probe switch/port assignment
