ctAliasConfigurationNumQueueWraps

Module: CTRON-ALIAS-MIB

OID (symbolic): CTRON-ALIAS-MIB::ctAliasConfigurationNumQueueWraps

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.3.7.1.1.4.3.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: This object represents the number of times the queue for this ctAliasConfigurationEntry has wrapped. Since circular queues are used for storing the entries, when all allocated entries are used, the oldest entries are reused, thus creating a wrap condition. A value of zero indicates the queue has not wrapped, except in the case that the counter itself has wrapped.

What is ctAliasConfigurationNumQueueWraps?

This Counter32 tracks how many times the circular queue backing this ctAliasConfigurationEntry has wrapped, meaning all allocated slots filled up and the oldest entries began being recycled. A rising count tells an admin that this interface (or configuration scope) is churning through more distinct addresses than its allocated alias-table space can hold onto at once. For example, a fast-growing ctAliasConfigurationNumQueueWraps on a particular interface would prompt the admin to raise its ctAliasConfigurationInterfaceMaxEntries so fewer legitimate entries get discarded prematurely.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.3.7.1.1.4.3.1.4
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> CTRON-ALIAS-MIB::ctAliasConfigurationNumQueueWraps

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.3.7.1.1.4.3.1.4.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> CTRON-ALIAS-MIB::ctAliasConfigurationNumQueueWraps.1

Start monitoring Cabletron Systems/Enterasys switch (Node Alias feature) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the CTRON-ALIAS-MIB::ctAliasConfigurationNumQueueWraps OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Cabletron Systems/Enterasys switch (Node Alias feature) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Cabletron Systems/Enterasys switch (Node Alias feature) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ctAliasConfigurationNumQueueWraps into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This object represents the number of times the queue for this ctAliasConfigurationEntry has wrapped. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
