ctBroadcastDesiredBroadcastThreshold

Module: CT-BROADCAST-MIB

OID (symbolic): CT-BROADCAST-MIB::ctBroadcastDesiredBroadcastThreshold

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.2.13.1.1.1.7

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: The allowable number of received broadcast frames per second this interface is allowed to forward to/out other interfaces in the device. Any number of broadcast frames per second above the desired vlaue will be dropped. The default value for the interface is the theoretical maximum frames per second for the interface. The acceptable range covers the theoretical maximum for all current media forms.

What is ctBroadcastDesiredBroadcastThreshold?

This setting defines the maximum number of received broadcast frames per second that this interface is allowed to forward to other interfaces in the device, with any excess above the threshold being dropped, and it defaults to the theoretical maximum frame rate for that interface's media type. Admins lower this value below the theoretical maximum specifically to protect the rest of the chassis from broadcast storms originating on that port. For example, setting ctBroadcastDesiredBroadcastThreshold to 5,000 frames per second on a port known to have flaky end devices would cap the broadcast flooding that port can inject into the rest of the network.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.2.13.1.1.1.7
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> CT-BROADCAST-MIB::ctBroadcastDesiredBroadcastThreshold

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.2.13.1.1.1.7.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> CT-BROADCAST-MIB::ctBroadcastDesiredBroadcastThreshold.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.2.13.1.1.1.7.1 i <value>
