Because Contivity units can participate in OSPF to advertise VPN or LAN routes, an Alert state here signals that the box's routes may stop being learned or advertised correctly, which can silently blackhole traffic. For example, if this object flips from Healthy to an Alert value, the admin should check neighbor adjacencies since the gateway's advertised routes to the rest of the network may no longer be current.
