It is a stronger sign of contention or a duplex mismatch than a single collision, since the frame had to back off and retry repeatedly before succeeding. If txMultipleCollision grows much faster than txSingleCollision on a given port, that points to a busier or misconfigured segment worth investigating before it starts dropping frames outright.
