This Counter32 object counts good packets transmitted by a port that were directed to a broadcast address, excluding errored broadcasts and multicast traffic. An admin assessing how much broadcast traffic a switch is forwarding out a given port watches this counter to understand the broadcast load being pushed toward connected devices. For example, a port showing a disproportionately high broadcast transmit count compared to its unicast traffic would prompt the admin to investigate whether broadcast traffic should be contained with VLAN segmentation.
