minimumDiffCharsPassword

Module: CME-MIB

OID (symbolic): CME-MIB::minimumDiffCharsPassword

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2.3.51.2.4.1.1.20.2.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: The required minimum number of characters in the new password different from the previous password. The default value is 2.

A SET of this object is ignored until the complexPasswordRules option is enabled and the minimumPasswordReuseCycle is not none(0)

What is minimumDiffCharsPassword?

This read-write enumerated integer (none, oneChar, twoChars, threeChars, fourChars and so on, default 2) sets how many characters a new password must differ from the previous one, and only takes effect once complexPasswordRules is enabled and minimumPasswordReuseCycle is not none. It stops users from making only a trivial tweak, like incrementing a trailing digit, when forced to change passwords. For example, with this set to twoChars(2), changing 'Passw0rd1' to 'Passw0rd2' would be rejected for differing by only one character.
