ifwanTxStart

Module: CLEARTRAC7-MIB

OID (symbolic): CLEARTRAC7-MIB::ifwanTxStart

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.727.7.2.2.2.1.10

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: For all user protocols except ASYNC, PASSTH and COP.

Transmit start level. This is the number of characters that are accumulated before the transmitter is enabled when a frame is incomplete.

When set to MAX, the transmitter is enabled only when a complete frame has been accumulated by the unit. This value prevents underruns but can introduce unnecessary delays.

When the transmit start level is set to a numeric value, the transmitter is enabled at that level even if a frame coming from the remote unit has not been completely received. If the port is in DCE-INTRN mode and fallback is enabled, the transmitter falls back when the number of characters of an incomplete frame in the output queue goes below the transmit start level. Otherwise, no fallback occurs.

What is ifwanTxStart?

This read-write enumeration, applying to all user protocols except ASYNC, PASSTHRU, and COP, sets the transmit start level, the number of characters accumulated before the transmitter begins sending an incomplete frame. An administrator tunes this to balance latency against the risk of transmitter underruns, with the MAX setting waiting for a complete frame before transmitting at all. For example, setting this to MAX on a link with an unreliable data source would prevent partial-frame transmission glitches at the cost of added buffering delay.
