OID (symbolic): CLEARTRAC7-MIB::ifwanPppRequestMagicNum

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.727.7.2.2.2.1.132

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This parameter determines whether the port will request the Magic Number from the remote peer. The Magic Number is a 4-byte field that aids in the detection of link loopback conditions and other data link layer anomalies.

Set this parameter to YES (the default value) to request the peer's Magic Number. Set it to NO to disallow a Magic Number request.

What is ifwanPppRequestMagicNum?

This read-write yes/no setting controls whether this PPP port asks the remote peer for its 4-byte Magic Number during LCP negotiation. The Magic Number helps the port detect a looped-back link, since receiving its own Magic Number back would indicate the transmit and receive paths are connected to each other rather than to a real peer. For example, on a leased line prone to being accidentally looped by a technician, leaving this object at its default yes(1) lets the port automatically flag the loopback condition instead of appearing simply unresponsive.
