Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This parameter is a restart counter for Configure-Requests. It defines the maximum number of successive retry periods that can elapse when the port attempts to send a Configure-Request packet to the remote peer. The port counts the number of retry periods that elapse before receiving a Configure-Ack, Configure-Nak or Configure-Reject from the peer, until it assumes that the peer is unable to respond.

The values 0 to 254 set a finite number of retry periods. Use the value 255 to allow the port to send a Configure-Request packet an unlimited number of times.

What is ifwanPppConfigRetries?

This read-write value is the maximum number of Configure-Request retry attempts this PPP port will make while trying to establish LCP negotiation with a peer. It caps how persistently the port keeps retrying before giving up on bringing the link up, which helps distinguish a genuinely down link from a slow-to-respond one. For example, if the link to a remote router has intermittent noise, increasing this counter beyond its default lets the port survive a few lost Configure-Request packets instead of declaring the PPP session failed.
