trapCount

Module: CLARENT-MIB

OID (symbolic): CLARENT-MIB::trapCount

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2858.48.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: Number of specific traps sent from the agent

What is trapCount?

This read-only integer tracks how many times this specific trap, per its trapClass/trapNumber combination, has been sent by the gateway's agent. Admins use it to gauge whether a particular condition is a one-off or a recurring/flapping issue by watching this counter climb over time. For example, a trapCount that keeps incrementing rapidly for the same trap type indicates a flapping condition rather than a single isolated event, which changes how urgently it should be investigated.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.2858.48.5
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> CLARENT-MIB::trapCount

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.2858.48.5.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> CLARENT-MIB::trapCount.1

SNMPv3 example:

snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> trapCount.1
