Type: TruthValue

Access: read-write

Description: If a value of the parameter is true a frame with unknown destination MAC address sent by the Layer 3 to a VLAN will be sent to all ports of the VLAN. If a value of the parameter is false a frame with unknown destination MAC address sent by the Layer 3 to a VLAN will be discarded.

What is vlanSendUnknownToAllPorts?

This read-write TruthValue controls whether frames with an unknown destination MAC address, sent by Layer 3 to a VLAN, are flooded to all ports of that VLAN (true) or simply discarded (false). An admin sets this to false to reduce unnecessary flooding traffic in VLANs where unknown-destination frames are unlikely to be legitimate, or true to maximize the chance such frames still reach their destination. For example, setting vlanSendUnknownToAllPorts to false on a large VLAN with many ports would stop unknown-unicast Layer-3-originated frames from being broadcast across the whole VLAN.
