An admin adds a third match dimension here, for example layering a protocol-number tuple on top of address and port tuples already set in slots 1 and 2, to narrow the ACE to a very specific traffic flow. For example, to restrict a rule to only UDP traffic in addition to the subnet and port already matched in slots 1 and 2, the admin would point this third slot at a Tuple holding the UDP protocol number.
