Description: Manages Cisco Small Business MIR (Maximum Information Rate) limiting for bandwidth control on ports.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCOSB-MIR-MIB?

CISCOSB-MIR-MIB is a Cisco Small Business private MIB for Maximum Information Rate (MIR) bandwidth limiting, a rate-limiting/traffic-shaping feature applied per interface or VLAN. It exposes configuration objects for how many rate-limit rules (MRIs) can exist, how many are currently in use, and per-interface rate-limit bindings, along with VLAN-based reserved port settings. Its monitoring value is primarily configuration/capacity status—verifying how close the device is to its maximum supported rate-limit rule count and confirming which interfaces have active bandwidth caps, useful for capacity planning on constrained SMB hardware. It is Cisco proprietary with no direct IETF MIB dependency. It is deployed on Cisco Small Business switches where administrators throttle bandwidth on specific ports or VLANs to manage congestion. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-MIR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-MIR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Small Business switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would compare rlMirCurMriNum against rlMirMaxNumOfMRIs to see how much rate-limiting capacity remains before hitting the device's built-in MRI limit, then check rlMirInterfaceTable/rlMirInterfaceEntry (via rlMirInterfaceIfIndex and rlMirInterfaceMrid) to confirm which specific interface is bound to which rate-limit profile. If rlMirCurMriNum approaches rlMirMaxNumOfMRIsAfterReset, further rate-limit rule additions would fail, signaling a need to consolidate or remove unused MIR entries.

What Can Be Monitored

  • current vs max rate-limit rule count
  • per-interface MIR binding
  • VLAN-based reserved ports for MIR
  • rate-limit rule status
