This read-only counter tracks the total number of ATM cells received by the port from the attached customer equipment in the ingress direction. An administrator uses it as the baseline traffic-volume measure for the port, comparing it against downstream counters like ingrXmtCells or discard counters to compute loss rates. A counter that stops incrementing on an otherwise active port can indicate the physical link or line has gone down.
