An admin uses this to confirm whether this IPv6 interface's network is a plain VLAN or part of a private-VLAN arrangement that restricts which other hosts it can talk to directly. For example, if two hosts that should be isolated from each other can still communicate, an admin checks this sharing type on the relevant IPv6 interface to see whether the private-VLAN role was actually configured correctly.
