This value reports the interface type of the physical Ethernet endpoint representing one Ethernet-facing port on the fabric interconnect, together with the neighbor device it discovers on the wire, further classifying the kind of Ethernet interface this endpoint is. An administrator inventorying fabric-interconnect hardware uses ifType on this PhysEtherEp instance to distinguish between different interface variants without having to physically inspect each port. For example, ifType lets automated compliance checks flag any Ethernet endpoint that does not match the interface type the switch model is supposed to have.
