An admin uses this retained flag to determine, when reviewing history, exactly which metric (temperature, wear, etc.) triggered a threshold breach during that past interval. For example, an admin auditing why a drive alarm fired last month checks this field on the relevant historical record to confirm it was the drive-life threshold, not temperature, that was crossed.
