Keeping the thresholded state as part of the historical record lets an admin see, after the fact, exactly which alarm level, if any, a past sample violated, rather than having to re-derive it from raw temperature numbers. An admin building an incident timeline would use this field to pinpoint the exact archived sample where a disk bay first crossed into a critical-high state.
