Recording the right-side inlet reading historically lets an admin compare left-versus-right airflow balance across the disk backboard after the fact, which can reveal an uneven cooling path. If a disk on the right side of a tray failed while one on the left did not, an admin would compare this reading against the archived left-inlet value from the same era to check for asymmetric airflow.
