Since the board controller is often responsible for managing power sequencing to other components, its own power state is a useful early data point when a server fails to power on normally, if the board controller itself never reaches a powered state, nothing downstream will sequence correctly. An admin debugging a server stuck in a partial power-on state would check this object before assuming the problem lies with the main power supply.
