Category: Cisco Devices, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares agent capability statements for SNMP View-based Access Control Model (VACM) MIB on Cisco platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SNMP-VACM-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-SNMP-VACM-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module declaring which features of the standard SNMP-VIEW-BASED-ACM-MIB (View-based Access Control Model, RFC 3415) a Cisco device implements. It belongs to Cisco's SNMP security/access-control management-plane feature area. It contains only capability declarations, listing supported object groups and compliance statements from the VACM MIB, with no data objects of its own. As a conformance module it exposes no operational, fault, or hardware-health data — its sole role is to describe which VACM access-control features (views, groups, security-to-group mappings) a given platform supports. It is fully dependent on SNMP-VIEW-BASED-ACM-MIB (RFC 3415), and it is consulted by SNMP management/security-configuration tools during capability discovery against Cisco routers and switches. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-SNMP-VACM-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SNMP-VACM-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco routers and switches

Monitoring Examples

CISCO-SNMP-VACM-CAPABILITY defines no runtime objects (sample_objects is empty); it consists of AGENT-CAPABILITIES clauses mapping supported VACM object groups to Cisco platform/release combinations. There is no monitoring scenario for this module — it is read once by SNMP configuration tools to confirm VACM feature support before provisioning access-control policy on the device.
