Module: CISCO-MGX82XX-SONET-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-MGX82XX-SONET-MIB::sonetSectionTraceToTransmit

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.351.110.4.6.1.3.4.1.12

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: OCTET STRING

Access: read-write

Description: Sonet Section Trace To Transmit. 16-64 bytes String. If 16 byte trace is selected, FW will only use bytes 0-15 of the string.

What is sonetSectionTraceToTransmit?

This octet string, 16 to 64 bytes depending on sonetSectionTraceSelection, holds the Section Trace identifier this device transmits to the far end, with only the first 16 bytes actually used if a 16-byte trace format is selected. An admin cares because this is how the far end can automatically verify it's connected to the correct section, and a mismatched or generic trace string (versus a meaningful site/circuit label) makes automated misconnection detection useless. For example, setting this to a string like 'SITE-A-RING2-E1' lets the receiving equipment's automated trace-mismatch alarm actually mean something rather than showing a default or blank value.
