An admin cares because the daily total smooths out short bursts and gives a better sense of whether a section's physical link has a chronic, ongoing problem versus a single isolated 15-minute blip. For example, a section showing a small ES count in the current 15-minute window but a large ES count for the whole day indicates the problem has been recurring steadily rather than being a one-time event.
