Description: This variable indicates the status of the sonet path layer. The cwSonetPathCurrentStatus is a bit map represented as a sum, therefore, it can represent multiple defects simultaneously. The sonetPathNoDefect should be set if and only if no other flag is set.

The various bit positions are: bit 1 = sonetPathNoDefect bit 2 = sonetPathRcvLOP bit 3 = sonetPathRcvAIS bit 4 = sonetPathRcvRDI bit 5 = sonetPathUnequipted bit 6 = sonetPathSignalLabelMismatch bit 7 = sonetPathTraceFailure bit 8 = sonetPathXmtAis bit 9 = sonetPathXmtRdi bit 10 = sonetPathRcvLOCD

What is cwSonetPathCurrentStatus?

This bitmap integer reports which SONET/SDH Path-layer defects are currently active — such as Loss Of Pointer (LOP) — with each bit representing a distinct defect and sonetPathNoDefect set only when nothing else is. An admin cares because Path-layer defects represent end-to-end connectivity problems distinct from Section or Line layer issues, and a defect here (like LOP) with clean Section/Line status points to a problem specific to path-level pointer processing or an end-equipment mismatch rather than the physical span. For example, seeing the LOP bit set while both Section and Line layers report no defect suggests the problem lies in path-terminating equipment's pointer processing rather than the transmission medium itself.
