cpwVcMplsOutboundIndexNext

Module: CISCO-IETF-PW-MPLS-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-IETF-PW-MPLS-MIB::cpwVcMplsOutboundIndexNext

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.107.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Unsigned32

Access: read-only

Description: This object contains an appropriate value to be used for cpwVcMplsOutboundIndex when creating entries in the cpwVcMplsOutboundTable. The value 0 indicates that no unassigned entries are available. To obtain the cpwVcMplsOutboundIndex value for a new entry, the manager issues a management protocol retrieval operation to obtain the current value of this object. After each retrieval, the agent should modify the value to the next unassigned index, however the agent MUST NOT assume such retrieval will be done for each row created.

What is cpwVcMplsOutboundIndexNext?

This is a 'give me the next free slot' helper object: a management station reads it to learn what index value it should use when creating a new row in the cpwVcMplsOutboundTable, and a value of 0 means the table has no unassigned indexes left to hand out. It exists specifically to avoid race conditions between multiple management stations trying to provision outbound MPLS entries for pseudowires at the same time. If this object returns 0 on a router that's supposed to still have capacity for new outbound tunnel mappings, that's a sign the table has hit its implementation-specific size limit and needs cleanup of stale entries.
