Description: Number of consecutive ticks this VC has been 'up' in both directions together (i.e. 'up' is observed in cpwVcOperStatus.)

What is cpwVcUpTime?

This counts, in TimeTicks (hundredths of a second), how long the pseudowire has continuously shown 'up' in cpwVcOperStatus, resetting to zero any time either direction drops. It's the primary at-a-glance stability indicator for a given VC, since a low value on a VC that was provisioned months ago immediately flags recent instability worth investigating. A value of 8640000 ticks equals exactly 24 hours of uninterrupted uptime, whereas a value under 100 ticks means the VC just came up seconds ago.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Cisco ASR 9000 series MPLS/pseudowire provider-edge router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cpwVcUpTime into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports how many consecutive ticks this pseudowire has been continuously up in both directions. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a TimeTicks-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value resets to a low number unexpectedly, since that indicates the pseudowire went down and came back up. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
