Description: unknown: When the value for this attribute could not be determined. direct: Denotes an alarm generated by a set of events where all events are reported by an observation(s) of a managed object. indirect: Denotes an alarm generated by a set of events where all events were deduced or inferred by the status of managed objects as determined by the network management system. mixed: Denotes an alarm generated by a set of events which were either direct or indirect.
What is cenAlarmType?
This classifies how the alarm was generated: direct means it came from an actual observation of a managed object, while indirect means it was deduced or inferred from the status of other managed objects rather than observed firsthand. This distinction is operationally important for triage -- a direct alarm is generally more trustworthy to act on immediately than an indirect one, which might stem from a single upstream root cause affecting many dependent alarms. A direct alarm reporting a specific power supply as failed via a real sensor reading carries more immediate confidence than an indirect alarm inferring a whole rack is down purely because its uplink switch stopped responding to polls.
