Category: Cisco Devices, Hardware and Environment, SNMP Framework
Description: Defines SNMP agent capability statements for Cisco Entity Extension MIB providing additional physical component attributes.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-ENTITY-EXT-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-ENTITY-EXT-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module that documents which objects and groups of CISCO-ENTITY-EXT-MIB a given Cisco IOS/IOS-XE agent implementation actually supports. It exposes no runtime data itself; it enumerates supported object groups covering extended physical-entity attributes (additional hardware/asset inventory fields) for compliance and NMS capability-negotiation purposes. As a capabilities statement it is not used directly to monitor hardware or software status; its role is purely declarative, telling management software which CISCO-ENTITY-EXT-MIB variables are implemented on a given device/software release. It is entirely dependent on its parent module CISCO-ENTITY-EXT-MIB (and transitively the IETF ENTITY-MIB) for any actual data semantics. It is typically embedded in Cisco IOS/IOS-XE agent capability statements, with the CISCO-ENTITY-EXT-CAPABILITY MIB consulted by NMS tools during MIB compliance checks rather than polled at runtime.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ENTITY-EXT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco routers and switches running IOS/IOS-XE
- vendor-specific (Cisco) conformance/capabilities module, not a device data source
Monitoring Examples
This module is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES statement, not a runtime data MIB — it contains no pollable objects or tables of its own, only declarations of which CISCO-ENTITY-EXT-MIB groups a given Cisco software release supports. There is no honest monitoring scenario to describe, since sample_objects is empty and the module defines conformance metadata rather than data instances.
