Description: A successor is the next routing hop for a path to the destination IP network number for a single route in the topology table in the AS. There can be several potential successors if there are multiple paths to the destination. This is the total number of successors for a topology entry.

What is cEigrpDestSuccessors?

This object reports the total number of successors, viable next-hop paths, currently known for the destination network in this topology entry. More than one successor means EIGRP is actively load-balancing or has redundant equal-cost paths to that destination, so an admin checking this can quickly tell whether a given destination has failover paths available or is a single point of failure within the EIGRP topology. A destination showing a value of 1 here is a single-path route with no redundancy at the EIGRP level, meaning a link failure on that one path would force the router into active-query state, whereas a value of 2 or more means an alternate path is already known and failover would be near-instant.
